ARTIST STATEMENT
I have had a varied professional life. I have been a knitting instructor, a gardener, a language arts teacher, a puppeteer and a licensed Family and Couples therapist. I have enjoyed each of these professions and am grateful for all the opportunities I have had. Looking back, I have many fond memories of all these endeavors and particularly, I enjoyed being a puppeteer.
Puppeteers/ Artists reside in the shadows/ studios. We cast shadows, we bring shapes, colors, line and textures to life on our stages/canvases. Like the puppeteer, the artist is not seen except by his/her paintings, the creative hand behind the scene.
I consider myself a mixed media artist who is inspired by a myriad of experiences, city streets. classrooms and therapy offices as well as the beauty of nature. Sometimes I feel compelled to create by a poem, melody or perhaps fragments of a conversation with a friend or strangers. Mostly I use paint, papers, different mark making materials to create my work.
